Compare Hilton Gold to Diamond
A few weeks ago, I blogged that I might lose my Hilton Diamond status. Hilton Gold status (the next step down) won't be a problem. So, I decided to look... what's the difference, anyway?
I took a look through the documentation on the Hilton web site, and here's what I can see the differences are:
Point Bonuses: Gold receives 25% bonus, Diamond 50% bonus
When staying at Embassy Suites: Gold can receive 500 bonus points, Diamond 1000 bonus points
When staying at Hilton Grand Vacations: Gold can receive 1000 bonus points, Diamond 2000 bonus points
When staying at Hilton, Conrad Hotels, and Doubletrees, Gold receives access to the Executive Lounge only if they were upgraded to the Executive Floor. Diamond gets access to the Executive Lounge no matter what.
Diamond members have the Guaranteed Reservations clause where rooms will be available if you call 48 hours in advance.
I do make use of the extra points right now - gets me free rooms more quickly, which I use on personal vacations.
I use the Executive Lounge (beyond breakfast, which is included for Gold members) about half of the trips where there is a lounge. So I'd miss that one.
I've never tried the Guaranteed Reservations. It looks like there is enough fine print that it isn't really a "guarantee" but who knows.
So, I guess it wouldn't be all that bad if I dropped from Diamond to Gold. But it just sounds so much better at the front desk when you're the highest status level they have - you get treated a lot better, I think.
