Results of "phase 2" move

Here's the play-by-play about the move with the cats on Saturday, November 28.

4:24 AM - left the house. The GPS estimates it will be 991 miles and take 15 hours and 9 minutes (estimated arrival at 8:38 PM Central time)

5:06 AM - I turn on to Interstate 76. The GPS says my next thing I have to do is 504 miles away. Guess I don't need to pay attention to the GPS for a while...

6:56 AM - I made it to Nebraska. 789 miles remain in the trip.

7:15 AM (Mountain time) - I break for breakfast.

9:47 AM (Central time) - First gasoline break of the day. 653 miles and 10 hours still to go according to the GPS.

11:59 AM - I break for lunch.

At this point, I forgot to keep track of the timing of things.... My arrival into Iowa was through some fairly heavy Omaha traffic, so I didn't write that down.

The second gasoline break of the day was in Iowa. I was averaging somewhere around 35 miles per gallon for this trip.

5:07 PM - I cross the Mississippi River to enter Illinois

7:17 PM - I arrive at the Bloomington hotel.

Total time on the road was 13 hours and 53 minutes.

Tasker: Get Voice Command

The way I decided to set up Tasker is to use some reusable tasks that can be called from other places. The first one I'll talk about is the Get Voice Command. This task listens for some stock commands like "yes", "no", "cancel", or "repeat". It is a quicker listener than the "Get Voice Input" command which I'll talk about in another post. How to play a 16 against a 10

This month's Casino Player magazine has lots of good information, and I'll be posting some of it over the upcoming days. In blackjack, here are the rules for playing a 16 against a dealer's 10 up card. If you have a 10 and 6 or a 9 and 7, surrender if you can. If you can't surrender (not allowed), then hit. If you have a pair of 8's, then split them. If you happen to draw another 8 on the split (so you again have 16) and you can't resplit (not allowed), then stand. If you get a 16 after three or more cards (e.g. you start out with a 4-8 and then hit and get a 4), then stand. If you have a soft 16 (e.g. Ace-5 or 3-Ace-2) then hit. I always had a "gut feeling" about that third one - the "card" (see wizardofodds.com for an example) says to hit a hard 16 against a 10, but the card also doesn't differentiate between a two-card 16 and a three-card 16. Finally Have Access Again

At some point last year, my work computer decided that all "blogger.com" web addresses were bad and must be blocked. So I was unable to update this blog from my work computer. I finally got a new personal computer so I'm able to update this site again.  Most of my updates are on March Madness trips. In 2024, I did not go anywhere for March Madness. On Thursday I went out to a local bar and on Friday I stayed at home and hosted some of my friends on my 4 TV setup in the basement.
