What A Choice

I've been picking a college basketball game every day since the start of the season. (So far, I'm 60% 18-12 with 1 push). Today, I log in to make my pick, and there's a grand total of 1 game to choose from - Seattle +5.5 at Eastern Washington. I went ahead and picked Seattle. The line has since moved to 4.5, so at least I know that I'm picking along with the "wise guys" in Vegas - there's been more money on Seattle, so Vegas is moving the line to promote more action on Eastern Washington.

Finally Have Access Again

At some point last year, my work computer decided that all "blogger.com" web addresses were bad and must be blocked. So I was unable to update this blog from my work computer. I finally got a new personal computer so I'm able to update this site again.  Most of my updates are on March Madness trips. In 2024, I did not go anywhere for March Madness. On Thursday I went out to a local bar and on Friday I stayed at home and hosted some of my friends on my 4 TV setup in the basement.

2011 Second Quarter Travel Update

The second quarter of 2011 is in the books. Am I half way to keeping my Platinum American status and Diamond Hilton status? To maintain my Platinum status on American Airlines, I need to fly 60 segments or 50,000 miles. The miles will always be difficult to get since almost all my travel is inside the United States. So far this year I have 24,340 miles (48.7% of the way there), but I have 38 segments (63.3% of the way there). So I'm looking good for Platinum status. For Hilton Diamond, I need 28 stays (a check-in/check-out at a hotel) or 60 nights to maintain my status. I haven't been able to stay exclusively at Hilton properties for every one of my trips (proximity to customer, lack of available hotels, etc). But I have managed 25 nights (41.7% of the way there) in 16 stays (57.1% of the way there). I'm looking all right based on number of stays to maintain my Hilton status. I think my travel is going to slow down for a little while, so my pace for the first half of the ye...

Recap of March Madness Trips through 2023

I keep updating these posts every year as I take off work for the first couple days of the men's NCAA basketball tournament. Here's what I posted through 2022: https://mattholthe.blogspot.com/2022/04/march-madness-2001-through-2022.html In 2023, I went on a trip to Iowa to watch the games. We chose Iowa because we could be closer to home, we could meet some people there, and the state of Illinois has restrictions on betting in-state teams. If we stayed in Illinois, we couldn't bet on Northwestern or Illinois. We did discover that Iowa has restrictions on betting individual players, so we couldn't bet certain players to go over or under point totals, for example. Now, keeping everything updated, here is what I have done for the first weekend of March Madness every year going back to 2001: 2001 - at home in Colorado 2002 - trip to Illinois 2003 - trip to Las Vegas 2004 - trip to Las Vegas 2005 - trip to Illinois 2006 - trip to Las Vegas 2007 - trip to Las Vegas 2008 - tr...
