March Madness 2001 through 2022
Tonight in the NCAA National Championship game featuring North Carolina (an 8 seed who beat 2-seeded Duke in the semifinals and ended the coaching career of Coach K) against Kansas (a 1 seed who beat 2-seeded Villanova in the semifinals).
This year, after tonight of course, I will have managed to watch at least part of every single tournament game, including all "first four" games. I think that's a first for me. I was at home for most of the games and I now have a 4 TV setup that I can use in the basement to watch all the games on Thursday and Friday.
I need to update my history of trips going back to 2001 for watching the first and second round games of March Madness. I have several posts that go back to 2001 for the history:
The last post states "In 2020, I will be going to Tunica, MS, to watch and bet on the games." Well, that was before the pandemic. The 2020 tournament was canceled and didn't happen. So, obviously, the trip to Tunica didn't happen.
In 2021 and 2022 I stayed at home to watch the games. 2021 was still during the pandemic. The tournament was entirely held in and around Indianapolis in front of very few fans. It was a very strange tournament. Gonzaga was undefeated and beat UCLA in the semifinals on a great long-range shot. But they were blown out by Baylor in the championship game.
We are trying to plan a trip somewhere in 2023, since the last trip for March Madness was in 2017 to Vegas. Here's a summary of my NCAA Tournament viewing going back to 2001:
